Sports Massage is an individualized session that typically deals with some sort of physical pain or soreness in a particular, targeted muscle group. Typical conditions I deal with include Tennis/Golfer's Elbow, Plantar Fasciitis, Frozen Shoulder, rotator cuff rehab, pinched nerves, Sciatic pain, Restless Legs, or the like. Although the name implies that only folks involved with sports should get this style of massage, in actuality ANYONE who deals with acute or chronic pain from sitting at work all day, doing yard work outside, or folks who go to the gym and want faster recovery times should try this style of massage. I use techniques such as Trigger Point, Myofascial Release, and some pin-and-stretch to aid in managing the soreness/pain. This style of massage is NOT relaxing, rather it is meant to help your body function properly and relieve pain.
Thai Massage on the other hand is a more relaxation style of massage and involves dynamic movement in which I move your arms and legs into yoga-like positions and is deeply relaxing for your whole body. It can also be known as "Stretch Massage," "Lazy Yoga," or "Thai Yoga Massage." My style of Thai Massage is also combined with Deep Tissue Massage where I will be using oil on larger muscle groups (back. glutes, hamstrings and quads). The flow will feel like a dance. Just like yoga, it's a great way to connect your mind, breath, and body to create one complete centered being. Yes I will use oil, but as the demonstration videos indicate, there's typically some movement involved. Those of you that want a relaxing Swedish Massage or Deep Tissue Massage will love Thai Massage.
Lastly, regardless of whether you want a Sports Massage or Thai Massage, THERE WILL BE NO DRAPING. I like to emphasize this because most people (Americans in particular) are used to a traditional "Western" massage where you have a sheet or blanket on top. Just wear clothes you wear to the gym or a yoga class, and you'll be prepared for the session.
